According to UN Declaration on the Rights of Disabled Persons, disabled person is defined as “any person unable to ensure by himself or herself, wholly or partly, the necessities of a normal individual and/or social life, as a result of deficiency, either congenital or not, in his or her physical or mental capabilities”.

Social integration requires all the children and young people to involve the community without attention to personal development of children and young people and without attention to the nature and severity of barriers. Standard Rules on the Equalization of Opportunities for Disabled persons held at the meeting of United Nations General Assembly on 20 December 1993, resolution no: 48/96 mentions the necessities of fulfillment of certain pre-conditions for disabled people to involve equally in society. Discrimination against the disabled should be placed on the agenda of society and it must be enabled to society to self-question.

Due to,

- social isolation,
- exposure to discrimination,
- lack of skills in coping with disability issues,
- lack of social support;

family of individual with special needs experience:

a) "rejecting the disability"
b) "life dissatisfaction"

The project focuses on solving these problems.

The overall aim of our project is enhancing "life satisfaction and subjective well-being" of families of individuals with special needs and developing of their skills in coping with "difficulties of life".

Specific objectivies:

Parents who have children with special needs and disability will gain;

  1. Acceptance of disability,
  2. Creating susceptive attitudes towards one self, be attentive to oneself
  3. Improve coping skills,
  4. Improving social self-sufficiency,
  5. Improving life satisfaction and humor skills,
  6. Improving emotional regulation and emotional stability.

Solution Approach:

In the project, a education programme consisting of 4 to 8 weeks that is created by using "form theater" and "creative drama" methods will be prepared and applied to the families of the special needs individuals.

The other outputs of the project are to reveal the personal experiences of parents and to create materials that will set an example for parents who have the same problems by expressing themselves on drama.

The education programme to be prepared and other outputs will set an example in terms of implementation example, working principles and methodology for the teachers/specialists as well as they will provide support to the families of the individuals with special needs.

  1. Parents who have children with special needs and disability,
  2. Professionals, teachers and psychological councilors,

 Stakeholders:

  1. Parents who have children with special needs and disability,
  2. Professionals, teachers and psychological counselors,
  3. Students/youngsters with special needs and disability
  4. Service providers for disable individuals and individuals with special needs (NGO, Schools, Private Education Center, Local Authorities)

The resources will be translated to partners languages to permit the widest dissemination.
